What are the benefits of Mecademic robotics in aerospace & automotive automation?

01

High precision inspection, testing, and micromanipulation

The aerospace robotics industry calls for extreme precision to meet strict tolerance requirements, safety standards, and micromanipulation needs. Mecademic’s aerospace clients, ranging from NASA’s Johnson Space Centre to rocket manufacturing industry leaders, benefit from unmatched precision when automating with our Meca500 robot arm. The robot is commonly commissioned to assemble delicate aerospace electronics, perform quality inspections and testing, precision-machine small components, and even micro-manipulate extraterrestrial materials. With its 5 µm repeatability, the robot guarantees that each task is performed reliably, identically, and at the same rate. Equip the robots with vision systems and sensors for added precision at high work rates.

02

Increased throughput at minimal automation costs

Keeping costs levelled in an industry with expensive equipment, high costs, and significant financial risk is a priority for our aerospace clients. Automating with Mecademic creates positive cash flow and shortens lengthy manufacturing and testing processes. Compared with other automation solutions, our robots need significantly shorter integration time, development, and training. The robots are easy to reconfigure to different tasks, giving more flexibility to create multiple workstations without additional costs. Since the robots guarantee consistent quality across products and tasks, they lower the scrap rate, preventing rework costs. With their reduced downtime and high-output design, our robots ensure higher production speeds without compromising precision.

03

Improve production output and part-to-part repeatability

Since many automotive applications run 24/7, inconsistency in an automation system’s performance or human error can lower throughput. Even the slightest issue can hamper a production line. Mecademic’s precise robots minimize such problems by creating consistent cycle times and processes. Due to their 5-micrometer repeatability, they reduce part-to-part variability, delivering flawless results with each cycle. To maximize accuracy, pair them with a vision system. This lets them detect variations in materials and adapt their motions accordingly. Unlike manual processes, Mecademic robots can run 24 hours a day with zero maintenance, securing additional production output.

04

Automate low volume & changing tasks with minimal financial risk

Automotive manufacturing robots must adapt to the industry’s low annual production volumes and high mix of products. This industry requires reconfigurable automation solutions to frequently changing tasks, life cycles, and new part programs. Unlike other solutions that need to be scrapped or redesigned each time production changes, Mecademic robots are easily redeployable at little to no cost. Our robots are plug-and-play components, working seamlessly with multiple industrial fieldbus protocols (EtherNet/IP, EtherCAT) and programming technologies (C#, LabView, and more) out of the box. They are simple to integrate with existing automation platforms, infrastructure, equipment, and MES systems. Pair the robots with flexible tool changers to further facilitate switching from task to task and vision systems to process various parts.

Choose the right Mecademic robot for your industrial automation needs

SCARA Robot

If your application contains small parts presented on horizontal surfaces, and if the parts can be inserted without reorienting them about non-vertical axes, then our SCARA robot is the perfect candidate for your robotic automated assembly application.

Meca500 Robot

In some automated assembly scenarios, our Meca500 robot arm is a better fit. Choose the six-axis robot if:

  • your application involves working with parts that are presented in different orientations (such as in 3D bin picking) or that need to be reoriented about non-vertical axes;
  • small tilting motions are required during the fitting process, even when parts theoretically remain horizontal;
  • your application does not have a horizontal mounting surface;
  • a tool turret end effector is used.
